head like a hole
god money i'll do anything for you.god money just tell me what you want me to.
god money nail me up against the wall.god money don't want everything he wants it all.no
no you can't take it.
no you can't take it (no you can't take that away from me)
head like a hole.black as your soul.i'd rather die than give you control.head like a
hole.black as your soul.
i'd rather die than give you control.
bow down before the one you serve.you're going to get what you deserve.
god money's not looking for the cure.god money's not concerned with the sick among the
pure.
god money let's go dancing on the backs of the bruised.god money's not one to choose.
no you can't take it.no you can't take it.no you can't take that away from me.
head like a hole.black as your soul.i'd rather die than give you control.
head like a hole.black as your soul.i'd rather die than give you control.
bow down before the one you serve.you're going to get what you deserve.*you know who
you are*

this anthem against materialism is still a powerful song amidst trent's more depressing
works. the song talks of "god money" an entity which clearly depicts how money has an
omnipotent control over everything, even our souls. but money won't take trent's "it"
away; which could be anything from dignity to pride to freedom. the song says that
materialistic people are both mindless ("head like a hole") and soulless ("black as your
soul") zombies with god money as their deity and leader.

yelling at all the people in the world who've sold their souls to money and forget about decency or pride in themselves
and others just to have money. or possibly even people who do this for god, too -- "god money" could be calling money
a god, or could be a way of yelling at god and money in the same sentence. the narrator makes a (rather anger-induced)
vow not to let materialism control him, and asserts that whatever joy or satisfaction the people who've sold themselves
get won't last and they'll eventually "get what [they] deserve". throughout the album he has a fascination with justice. he
can't let go of his idea that people must get what should be coming to them. when they don't, it leaves him angry and
bitter. this concept is so prevalent in pretty hate that later in the album, he punishes himself for the things he does, to be
sure that what he gets is what he deserves.

My interpretation of this song is from a sexual perspective, before I learned that it may have been directed towards TVT
Records, so I'll give my first impression of what I thought this meant.
Instead of " 'God' money i'll do anything for you," I read this as " 'got' money i'll do anything for you..." from the
viewpoint of a male lover/"hooker"..."Got money just tell me what you want me to do." There seems to be a domination
situation here over which he (Trent) has no control ("don't want everything he wants it all"), but Trent is saying, "no you
can't take it, no no you can't take it (no you can't take that away from me), perhaps meaning his soul.
This is an ultimate expression of retaliation towards someone who has been evil, corrupt and greedy and he (Trent)
shows his hatred ("i'd rather die than give you control") and also his wish for revenge ("you're going to get what you
deserve").
