zach's downward spiral interpretation
zach's downward spiral interpretation
okay, instead of just doing one song I thought I would just do the whole downward spiral and get it over with. The
downward spiral as I see it is almost [like] Pink floyd's "the wall" except it has an ordinary person not a rock star. It
opens with just a man messing around with drugs: Mr. Self Destruct. "I control you. i'm a pusher I'm a whore I'm the
needle in your vein." It goes on. The character also begins to have a negative outlook on life and religion. We move on
to Piggy. In which I beleive his girlfriend dumps him. This causes him to go further into the drug scene and lose his
religious faith even more in Heresy. March of the Pigs: I think both songs would not have pigs in the title unless they
were related. Although the lyrics vary, I think that his girlfriend reappears with her new boyfriend and smears it in his
face. Closer: I think that the character then finds that he no longer has any emotional desire he just wants
companionship and sex is the only way he can do that without getting to close to someone and getting hurt again. The
character then begins to feel stronger than ever about his girlfriend but only with sexual desire. He sees her as something
higher than human. She is a vision of beauty that seems to relieve his hate. Ruiner: The character begins to realize his
deepseeded hate and begins to destroy all his other relationships. friends, family, and otherwise. Except he feels
somehow prosecuted and forced into doing it. As though he is some sort of puppet in this string of hate filled acts. The
becoming: The character begins to feel emotionless and empty. He finds this comfortable for his new conditions. If you
can't feel you can't hurt. And a machine which he sees himself as becoming certainly can't be hurt. I do not want this:
The character wants to get out of the predicament he is in but knows it can't really be done. Big man with a gun: He is
filled with visions of acts of voilence and desire for power. Or perhaps he likes to get the attention now that he realizes
that no one cares that he is gone. Warm Place: dream of happiness and contentment. fantasy of hope. Eraser: Self-hate
and desire to end it. Reptile: Once again his girlfriend is back. But this time she is not an angel or a pig. She isn't an
object of desire for him she is just a whore. He is disgusted by her behavior and the fact that he still sort of has some
feeling for her makes him even more mad. The downward spiral: The character ONLY CONTEMPL TES- does not
commit suicide. The howling wind that follows leading in to hurt shows that he is calmed and exhausted from
everything. He then wallows in his own misery before ending his own life at the end of hurt. "I would find a way..." We
are then hit with a massive screaming guitar which signifies the death. And the howling wind returns showing us a
tranquility previously unknown.
