sanctified
it's still getting worse after everything i tried.what if i found a way to wash it all aside.what if she touches with those
fingertips.as the words spill out like fire from her lips.
if she says come inside i'll come inside for her.if she says give it all i'll give everything to her.
i am justified.i am purified.i am sanctified.inside you
Heaven's just a rumor she'll dispel.as she walks me through the nicest parts of hell.i still dream of lips i never should have
never kissed.well she knows exactly what i can't resist
if she says come inside i'll come inside for her.if she says give it all i'll give everything to her.
i am justified.i am purified.i am sanctified.inside you
i'm just caught up in another of her spells.she's turning me into someone else.everyday i hope and pray this will end.but
when i can i do it all again
if she says come inside i'll come inside for her.if she says give it all i'll give everything to her.
i am justified.i am purified.i am sanctified.inside you
as surely as the blades course is run. maybe my kingdom's finally come *

Okay, to cut a long story short: in the first Hellraiser movie, there is this character called Julia that is sent to Hell. In the
second Hellraiser movie, Julia is allowed to be freed from Hell and in exchange, she must bring souls to Leviathan, the
keeper of Hell. When she appears, Julia is skinless (she is muscle, bone, guts etc. without skin) and is soon found by Dr.
Channard of whom the whole perspective of "Sanctified" is from. Whenever Julia gets intimate with someone, she puts
her finger to their mouth to arouse them. She did this to Dr. Channard in Hellraiser 2 and also to her former lover in the
first Hellraiser movie. She also kissed Dr. Channard once or twice in her skinless form.
In my opinion, this is the interpretation of "Sanctified" I get and also take into consideration that Trent Acknowledges
Clive Barker (The writer of the Hellraiser movies) in pretty hate machine.

before i read the "what trent says" section, i just assumed it was about a woman. now that i've read that trent wrote it
about cocaine (*coughhackgetoffthedrugstrentwewantyoualiveandhealthyandmakingyourmusicforagoodlyamountoftime-
yetcoughcough*), i'm beginning to see it as any kind of addictive thing, whether it be a relationship, a drug, or a routine.
sometimes people find something pleasurable, so they keep doing it, and get very into it. once they've "done it to death"
and really don't get the joy they got out of it any more, they keep doing it because they feel they should. they may feel a
bit of satisfaction, knowing that they've done "what they're supposed to", but it doesn't give them any joy. they realize
that the pleasure they get out of it is artificial, but it's almost like a ritual that they want the security of knowing they did.
"every day i hope and pray that this will end..... but when i can, i do it all again."

I think this was one of Trent's more innocent songs. It has more of a "childlike" feel to it--a boy questioning his
innocence before he was drawn into the depths of hell (sin).
He expresses feelings of dismay and doubt as to whether or not he should go with "her" (whether it is cocaine or a
female sexual encounter). He is afraid ("what if she touches with those fingertips"). He repeats that he is "purified"; he
is "sanctified" because he feels guilty ("i still dream of lips i never should have kissed") for what he is doing.
He feels what he is doing is wrong but he has no control over himself ("if she says give it all i'll give everything to her").
He, therefore, is justified in relinquishing his life to "her" because he feels he has no choice but to do just that ("if she
says come inside i'll come inside for her").
