piggy

piggy

hey pig
yeah you
hey pig piggy pig pig pig
all of my fears came true
black and blue and broken bones you left me here i'm all alone
my little piggy needed something new
nothing can stop me now
i don't care anymore
nothing can stop me now
i just don't care
hey pig
nothing's turning out the way i planned
hey pig there's a lot of things i hoped you could help me understand
what am i supposed to do i lost my shit because of you
nothing can stop me now
i don't care anymore
nothing can stop me now
i just don't care
nothing can stop me now
you don't need me anymore*

*written but not sung

i once heard something that the piggy in this song is not a bad name, per se, but a pet name for a girl. while she is one of the "pigs" that trent is singing about throughout the album, she is singled out as hurting him (or whoever the narrator is). Quite simply, piggy is about a break-up, but a very nasty one which makes the narrator stronger through emotional pain (which he equates to physical pain "black and blue and broken bones"). he turns apathetic and has started his way to becoming cold and emotionless.

people seem to think this (and maybe march of the pigs as well) is about being a serial killer. personally i don't see where this is coming from. i think of it more along the lines of "all of my fears came true", so i will make myself numb. i refuse to care at all, because if i did, the pain would be too much to bear. i refuse to see you [the person he is talking to in the song] as anything more than a pig, because if i saw you as anything more, i would have to deal with the pain of your rejecting me." but nowhere in this particular song do i see a desire to kill. that comes around much later, in, say, big man with a gun.

This is a very unconventional interpretation of the song, so bear with me guys. The first time I heard Piggy I instantly thought of a well known book and movie Lord of the Flies . I think the song piggy is Trent's reaction to or interpretation of the book. In Lord of the Flies, Piggy is the focus of abuse and torment, and is eventually killed at the hands of the young boy's deteriorated society. The song piggy could be in responce to the torment Piggy went through...the "black and blue" makrs, "broken bones" and the destruction of the society that doesn't turn out the way he "planned." OR, it could be about the pig, which is a reaccuring vehicle that symbolizes the anarchy and savageness through out the book. The pig is a symbol of the fear of anarchy coming true due to lack of society and structure. The song could be speaking about the same. It makes you wonder what was on t.v. the night he wrote this.
